So this is a great example on how silly MUNI management and team are. They spend money and energy to put this junk AC system. Even when it works, it is so noisy it makes it very hard to listen to your Ipod, but worse: it doesn't work. And don't tell me it is a money issue, because there is one great, low cost system called windows. The buses use them, and I am never hot when I take the bus. This is San Francisco! 99% of the time it would be enough to have air coming from the outside via some kind of window. No need for a active vent even. Take that noise piece of junk out, make the train lighter and much much more quieter (and reduce the energy consumption at the same time).
How bad is it? I am glad you asked, because I measured it! As you can see, it was 80 degrees inside just a few days ago.

And you know what is the worse part? it was just 56 degrees outside!
JUST OPEN A WINDOW!

Two months ago, I was on an N-Judah headed downtown. No fan was working and it was easily 100 degrees inside the back car. The temperature only continued to creep up when we got into the the tunnel.
Well, at Civic Center, the train stopped and the doors wouldn't open. It was really hot, and people started yelling into the intercom for the driver to open the doors. After about 2 minutes of this, with people starting to panic, someone finally pulled the emergency lever to force open the doors.
Everyone hurredly got out of the train. I went to the front car to get the driver's badge number, but he was nowhere to be found. The N was abandoned on the tracks.
I later filed a complaint on the Muni website with all the info I had about the incident. Of course, they never replied.
right, complains are futile, we are dealing with a corrupt union!
ever heard about a teacher getting fired? even one that was accused of sexual abuse? no? thank the union!!
